Instructor Masayuki Koyama, was born in Okayama, Japan where he learned and practiced Kendo in his youth. He ventured to New York and soon settled in Houston, Texas where he continues to hone and teach his Kendo skills as an adept 5th Dan player of over twenty years. He is registered with and has successfully obtained his ranks through shinsa (promotional exam) under AUSKF (All U.S. Kendo Federation).

Koyama Sensei’s teaching methods encompass proper discipline, but also enjoyment and collectiveness. On his downtime, he enjoys cycling, spending time with his pets and loved ones, including practicing Kendo with his son, a skilled, competitive 5th Dan player. Koyama Sensei is also a fishing, baseball, cooking and reading enthusiast.
